8 Hidden Study Spots on IU's Campus

8 Hidden Study Spots on IU's Campus

Finals week is officially upon us (unless you took icore like me!). The only problem is that Wells, Kelley, and the IU Memorial Union will be completely packed. If you are looking to find a secluded study spot, check out these hidden gems,

1. Art Museum

If you head up the main staircase of the IMU there are 2 study spots : Angles and the Fine Arts library. Angles is part coffee shop, part gift shop. If you're looking to beat the coffee lines at Wells and Starbucks, this is a great alternative.

I would also recommend the Fine Arts Library located on the second floor. It is strictly silent and much less crowded than other libraries on campus.

2. Willam Lowe Bryan Room

This is probably my favorite spot on the list. If you take the elevator by the IMU Starbucks up to the 7th floor and then walk up the stairs you reach the William Lowe Bryan room at the end of the hall. This place looks like something out of Harry Potter, high ceilings, comfy chairs, fire places, and a great view of campus. . My Icore group joked that it was the room of requirement since we couldn't find a consistent study spot during the case.

3. Above the IMU Starbucks

Take the stairway located near the IMU Starbucks and walk up to a secluded study spot that over looks the IMU entrance. I used to study here last year before my Spanish class. I'd like to think of it as a smaller version of the "stacks" but located in the union.

4. Coffee Shops on Kirkwood

If you are looking for some coffee-house vibes while studying for finals, Bloomington has many options for you. Here are two of my favorite that are both located on Kirkwood.

Soma: With a chalkboard menu, recycled furniture, indie music playing in the background, and vegan options, this place has a very hipster vibe. They have a wide variety of coffee options, however they also have teas, juices, and baked goods.

Poorhouse: Located on kirkwood, this coffee shop is a perfect place to study with friends in a calm, friendly atmosphere. Every month they donate 100% of their tips to a different charity.

5. Monroe Public Library

Located across the street from The Poorhouse Cafe, is the Monroe Public Library. The main floor is for children, but if you head upstairs there are a bunch of study spots. IF you're looking for complete silence call ahead and you can reserve a room by the hour.

6. IU Student Building

My friends show this to me while I was studying for ICore finals this semester. I think there are class normally there during the day time, but it is an awesome night time studying spot. If you head to the basement, there's a huge room filled with tables (exactly the ones in the spea library).

7. Laundry Room

If you are still living in the dorms this is actually a nice studying space. My freshman year I lived on the fourth floor which meant dragging my laundry down 4 flights of stairs to the laundry room. It turns out it is a pretty good study room, since the noise of the washers and dryers down out any other noise. You can get your homework done and do your laundry at the same time!

8. Grad Side of Kelley

The graduate side of the business school is often much quieter than the undergrad building. If you head up to the 3rd or 4th floor there are some tables in the corner that over look the arboretum.

Good luck with studying!!!
